Vilna Rocks Mocs

Vilna School offers a learning environment that embraces Cree cultural and language.  As such, Cree ways and cultural protocol are integrated into our school functions, are acknowledged in our school events, are evident in our school environment and are offered in school instruction throughout the year. 

 

  • Orange Shirt Day ceremony in honor of residential school survivors and those who did not
  • Red Dress Day Ceremony in honor of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls
  • Indigenous People's Day activities including an Eagle Feather presentation to high school graduates
  • Pipe ceremony and feast to mark the turning of the seasons
  • Talking circles and teaching by Knowledge Keepers and Elders
  • Tipi teachings and daily smudge ceremony
  • Wellness days that include Indigenous teachings and activities by Elders and Knowledge Keepers
  • School sponsored Sweats
  • Rock your Mocs day
  • Seven Grandfather Teachings mural in the agora
  • Indigenous Artist in Residence with Simon McLeod
  • Rattle and drum making classes
  • School morning activities includes the Morning song
  • Cree 10, 20 and 30 with certified teacher Ms. Jackie Steinhauer who also teaches the Aboriginal Studies courses
  • Land Based Learning opportunities
